By our complacency, the Church of Jesus Christ has become complicit in committing a terrible sin and has knowingly decided to live with it. Through our indifference we have participated in the murder of 45 million innocent, defenseless babies, and Jesus is going to call us into account for every single one of them. If he doesn't, no life has any value. Not yours or mine. The silence of His Church and the absence of its outrage is evidence of our knowledge as to what we are doing. Today we sing hymns and praise songs, take communion, preach sermons, take offerings, and shake each other's hands and tomorrow, 4,000 to 5,000 more babies will be slaughtered. We all know it and have decided to accept it.
Our way is clear. We must denounce the sin of abortion, admit our complicity in it and repent before God and before all of mankind. If we don't, our children and our children's children will experience the wrath of God in ways we can't even imagine. We have presumed on our God's grace long enough. The time of our accountability is now. We must not wait any longer. His judgment is at hand. We see it everywhere we look. It is in our government, in our schools, in our churches, in our families, and in our marriages. The Church of Christ has the blood of 45 million babies in on our hands; every man, woman, and child. None of us can claim that we have not sinned in this. By not standing in defense of our children and grandchildren we have silently demonstrated our support of it.
More than that, we have been eager to receive the rewards of the sin committed by others. We are no less responsible than the abortionist himself. Like him, we have blood on our hands. Like the men and women who choose death for their babies, we have chosen death. In fact, we are more responsible. Because the Church of Jesus Christ is called to stand in the way of people who are being led to the slaughter. We are called to give our lives for those who cannot defend themselves. Is our apathy and indifference to the brutal and merciless slaughter of our babies to be our legacy? Is that how we want to be remembered? As the Church that silently stood by and watched as 45,000,000 babies were slaughtered? The generation who with blood on our hands and stiff necks says that the Church of Jesus Christ is a mighty force in the world today. Are we not the people who proclaim that we are the salt and the light in a dark world?
But look at how our churches prosper!, you say. Look at how big they are? Surely the Church of Jesus Christ is a force to be reckoned with. Our prosperity must be a sign from God that we are in His Divine Will. All of this wealth must be evidence of His blessing on all we do. You say, look at the large numbers of people who have been saved! Our pews are full to overflowing. Surely we are not guilty of all of this blood. It cannot be us!
But it is. We are eating the meat that is sacrificed to idols. We are sowing the wind. But the Church says no, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus!
Brothers and Sisters, God freed us but He did not free us to do as we please, He freed us to do as we must, and empowered us to do what is right. More than freed, it is our calling. The Lord calls us to defend the innocent. So how are we to wash this blood from our hands? Our way is clear. We must deny Satan and his hold on us and draw near to the Lord. We must deny this god of material prosperity. We must understand and admit the depth and breadth of our sin. We must admit this illicit affair we have had with the world, but most importantly, we must draw nearer to God.
And let me tell you where you can find Him. Where I have found Him. Where He has been every time I have sought Him. He can be found at the site of the slaughter. Wherever that is in your city or state. He is where the innocent is being slaughtered; where the living image of God is being ripped to pieces and thrown into the fire. And once there to mourn and wail. To turn from our adulterous relationship with the lost and dying world and to truly seek His face. To turn from our wickedness and our gods of prosperity, time, and rights. When we have done this, our way will become clear.
