My Pastor, Gene Carlson, was in Austria giving a Pastoral Seminar last June. In the back of the church was a pro-life newsletter written in German. One of the articles in the newsletter had the words, "Wichita" & "Tiller," and he brought it back for me to have it translated. The translation was about when Mr. Tiller offered free abortions to commemorate the Roe V. Wade anniversary. He felt grief and SHAME to see our city credited with such a heinous act around the world. You see, Wichita, your city and mine, is famous around the world as the abortion capital. Kansas is the most abortion friendly state in the union, with the most liberal laws.
Abortion in America is down 40% since 1991, while in Kansas abortions are up 30% since 1991."
Ezekiel 16: 36,47,49 says, "Because you sacrifice the lifeblood of your children . . . you have become more corrupt than your sister Sodom. This was the sin of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters were arrogant, overfed, and unconcerned . . . " The Lord was speaking to Israel-the Church. Does this not describe America today? Lord, please help us repent of our pride, our self indulgence, and our apathy. We pray for our city, Wichita-You, 0 Lord, have delivered us from the Pine & Market clinic and most recently the Central clinic. Ten years ago we had three clinics, now we're down to one. Please make us abortion free NOW.
Bruce Garren, the man in charge of church activation says, "This holocaust started on my watch, I don't want my grandchildren to pay for what I allowed to happen." The call has been issued across America to Come to Wichita. and if you want to know why, it's because of the sin of our city.
D. James Kennedy said in his charge to Operation Save America -Wichita, for the Summer of Mercy Renewal -2001, "There is not a rational argument that can be presented for the flood of abortions that has launched this nation into a sea of blood. God condemns those who shed innocent blood and we are in danger of bringing down [on this city] the very wrath of God.
"The time has come for those who value human life to oppose this gross moral evil with every resource available under the law . . . I charge you to understand that the battle is not with any human organization, but with the principalities and powers of darkness . . . If the Christian Church can be mobilized into an effective spiritual assault team to fight the forces which would have us accept these abominations we can have every confidence that God will grant us a victory!"
As the Summer of Mercy Renewal begins, we plead with you to fast and pray with us sundown Monday - sundown Tuesday each week that the Lord will find favor with our city as the spirit of abortion is broken.
This has been a spiritual stronghold in our city for many years, but upon repentance by the Church of Jesus Christ we may be free of the shedding of innocent blood. May the violence in our streets come to an end, as we stand against this evil. This summer is not about the culture, it's not about politics. It's about the Church. The Church of Jesus Christ is the only entity on planet earth that has the call and the authority to end child sacrifice. May the Lord find men and women of God standing, praying, kneeling, worshipping, interceding, singing, and preaching in the streets until it is over.
Rise up, O Men of God- Stand for your Lord, your families and your city.
