Breaking the Chains of Darkness

by Karen Myers

May 13th, 2001

When I asked God to break the chains of darkness over Wichita Family Planning (otherwise known as the Central Mill) last February, I had no idea what God was going to do.

Wichita Family Planning, located at 3013 E Central, has been a stronghold of Satan's since its inception. Over the last 10 years, six different abortionists have murdered babies on its premises. And, until now, only one of them has been able to continue killing longer than a year. In fact, that one abortionist, Kristin Neuhaus [Caddell], has been killing babies in Wichita for six years. She is termed a "circuit-rider" abortionist because she travels all the way to Wichita from her main abortuary in Lawrence, KS each Friday to just to earn extra money by killing babies.

But what happens when gentle Christians show up? What happens when God's people go to the streets to pray, praise, and preach? What happens when the Church of Jesus Christ hears her call to rise up out of her pews and into the purpose of Almighty God?

Let's examine what happened when "Jesus freaks" did just that . . .

Babies Lives Were Spared

On-site sidewalk counselors and prayer supporters have spoken with dozens and dozens of parents to offer free help in Christ's name. This has resulted in over 50 babies being saved from abortion at Wichita Family Planning in the last year!

Escorts Heard the Gospel

Christians read the Bible, pray, and sing aloud from mid-morning to mid-afternoon each Friday at WFP. This has been an amazing witness to the escorts and security.

A former police officer worked at WFP for nearly 10 years and recently quit his security position. The teenagers who have faithfully witnessed to him each Friday for the last year were crying along with him at his last day of work. Before leaving, everyone gave him a hug and one teen said, "We'll keep praying for you." To which he replied, "Thanks! I need all the prayer I can get. Who knows? One of these days I might come back saved."

A young man from KU quit doing security work for Neuhaus at both her Lawrence and Wichita killing centers. He told one of the Christians "I don't want to do this kind of stuff any longer." The Scripture reading really seemed to affect him.

The abortionist's husband has also been impacted by on-site Christians. This has caused him to open up to the Gospel. Two Christians, in particular, have been witnessing to him each week. He has really loved (and even joined in singing) the hymns that God's people sing at Central on Fridays because they remind him of his boyhood in church.

The other escort at Central has worked there for the last few years. He has seemed to be alternately bothered by and then interested in our reading God's Word and singing hymns. One Friday he even requested that the teens sing "The Lily of the Valley," an old gospel hymn, for him. One time, when a pro-life teenager was reading the Bible aloud in the driveway, he walked back and forth, and back and forth, for about an hour, listening intently.

And,

Then,

Finally,

It came . . .

Spiritual Freedom!!!!

On Friday, May 4th, gentle Christians assembled at Wichita Family Planning to stand up for Jesus and His precious little baby boys and girls.

I have been active in pro-life work since 1988 (with my family) and have only once before encountered such intense Spiritual Warfare (the other time, interestingly, was the last Saturday that the Pine and Market abortuary was open). Jeff and Michele Herzog, Esther and Hannah Fleet, Susan and Samantha Key, myself, and my brothers Matthew and Joseph prayed, read Scripture, and sang hymns to Lord. A few others were on-site with signs. As I watched the day unfold, I was impressed with God's amazing presence, and also with the struggle between good and evil. We have felt, week after week, the Lord working in such a strong way that we should not have been surprised at the battle which we faced last Friday . . . In fact, God used two other events to prepare us for the battle:

First, on Friday, March 2nd, we were doing our usual Song, Bible reading, and Prayer routine at WFP. For our Bible reading, I read the story of David and Goliath (from 1 Sam 17) and as I finished, an escort asked me in an arrogant manner, "Why did you read THAT, Karen? What's the point?" I wasn't expecting this question, so I simply read [paraphrased] what David said to Goliath, "You come to us with a sword and spear, and with a shield: but we come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day will the LORD deliver you into our hands, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Wichita. And this assembly will know that the LORD saves not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD's, and He will give you into our hands."

Secondly, on Friday, April 6th, Michele was reading Scripture and came to Psalm 89:40 which says, "Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin." She shared this with us, and we knew at that moment that God had specifically showed us these words. We were encouraged to keep on faithfully, and to continue to go the gates of hell on Central Avenue where little babies are slaughtered and to stand in the gap for them.

Back to last Friday . . .

When I arrived, the oppression was almost overwhelming. Instantly, the words to a song that Esther Fleet taught me ran through my mind:

The weapons of our warfare are not carnal,

But they are mighty, yes, they are mighty.

The weapons of our warfare are not carnal,

But they are mighty in the Holy Ghost.
And they are strong to the pulling down of strongholds,

For they are mighty, yes, they are mighty.

And they are strong to the pulling down of strongholds,

Yes, they are mighty in the Holy Ghost.

And the weapons of our warfare were indeed strong and mighty in the Holy Ghost--all the way to the pulling down of strongholds. Our first weapon was singing hymns and praises to Christ. Our second weapon was prayer. Our third weapon was fasting. Our fourth weapon was public proclamation of Scripture.

As we read the Bible near the waiting room, one of the escorts grew increasingly annoyed and aggravated. He first blasted the radio at us, then became despondent when it didn't stop God's Word. So he began yelling and screaming at us; telling us that we were breaking the law, that we were harassing people, that we were forcing other people to listen to what they didn't want to hear.

My brother Matthew, who was home from the Navy, continually read the Bible over the abortuary parking lot for about two hours. The abortionist's husband listened intently as Matthew read.

Later, we were able to divert a young man and wife over to A Better Choice for a pregnancy test. After several minutes, the guy came outside to smoke in the parking lot. Matthew stopped his Bible reading long enough to witness to this young father, and soon this man was kneeling with my brother right in the parking lot, praying to make Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior. What a joy! After the couple found out that they were expecting, they told us that they decided to keep their baby. What another joy!

We praised God for a turnaround when a guy and his girlfriend left the clinic and drove away without having an abortion. They had come from Oklahoma to kill their baby, but went back to Oklahoma still with their baby!

Jeff usually prays at the front of the abortuary and calls out to people as they drive by. On Friday, his words were specially anointed. One thing he said grabbed my attention: "Why do we cut up our children like we do a plate of spaghetti?" The image of a diced baby's body on a plate of spaghetti noodles instantly fixed itself in my mind. How horrible!!

Later on, as a young couple arrived for an abortion, I begged them, "Please don't let them cut up your baby like they would cut up a plate of spaghetti and meatballs! Your baby is more important than that." This same couple came out to smoke over and over again. They seemed very nervous and scared. As of mid-afternoon when I left, they had still not had their abortion.

Just before I left, a car pulled in the driveway with a mother and daughter inside. I was standing about two feet away from the passenger side, and what I saw inside made me so sad. The girl's seat was reclined all the way back, so she could not see anything out the windows. She also had a washcloth over her eyes to hide. Her mother parked, then reached over and took the washcloth off her daughter's eyes. Then the mom got out, went around to the passenger side of the car, opened the door, and grabbed her girl. She practically pulled her daughter along towards the abortuary. The girl looked to be only 13-14 years old, and was very visibly pregnant. I never got to see her eyes, but I'm sure they must have been filled with pain. And tears.

I read Psalm 124 while out at WFP on Friday as a prayer for all the babies and men and women inside that oppressive place. When I got to verse 7, the words practically jumped off the page: "Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped." We claimed that verse for Central because of what the next verse said, "Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth." We prayed that the snare would be broken, in Jesus' name.

Last night we got the news . . . Kristin Neuhaus will not be killing babies in Wichita past May 28th. She does not want to be around when the "praying, preaching, praising Christians" (as Flip Benham puts it) return for the Summer of Mercy Renewal.

The Abortionist Quits

Per today's front-page article in the Lawrence Journal-World, "Doctor to Cut Abortion Service", Kristin Neuhaus will no longer be coming to Wichita to commit abortions. Her last Wichita baby-killing day is May 28th.

She and her husband reached this decision after they heard that "demonstrators" are expected to return to Wichita this summer for a Summer of Mercy Renewal (10th Anniversary).

Truly, God HAS broken down all his hedges; and has brought his strong holds to ruin. (Psalm 89:40)

And now, this is your land, King Jesus!!!

THE LORD IS KING FOR EVER AND EVER: THE HEATHEN ARE PERISHED OUT OF HIS LAND. Psalm 10:16
